Non-domestic Vacant Rating

The rating of unoccupied non-domestic property was introduced as part of the major programme of rating reform that is underway at present in Northern Ireland. The legislation for this reform is set out in the Rates (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 that came into operation on 1 April 2004. This change was introduced by the Government following widespread support expressed during consultation on the policy proposal in May 2002 and on the draft legislation in October 2003.
